About Us

My Journey: Jenna Erickson, ABCDT & CTDI

My name is Jenna Erickson and I am the founder of 42K9 Dog Training. I am certified as a dog trainer through Animal Behavior College and am also a Certified Trick Dog Instructor. I was inspired to begin my training career by my rescue pit mixes: Layla, Zelda, and Link.  Each dog has made me the trainer and dog mom that I am today.

Layla was my first rescue dog.  I knew that I wanted a pit bull because of how sweet they are with people. At 1.5 years old, Layla had been in 4-6 homes here in New England.  She was as sweet as can be with people, but highly reactive and aggressive towards other dogs.  It is because of her that I learned how to work with reactive dogs.  I have many tips and tricks to share on how to help reactive dogs.  Unfortunately, Layla passed in 2023 at the age of 12.

My next two rescue pit mixes both have unique personalities, but share the pittie trait of loving people.  My family and I adopted Zelda at 2 years old in 2023.  She was found on Christmas Day in South Carolina .  She had wandered into someone's garage to give birth to 7 puppies!  Zelda was a fantastic mama and was brought to Massachusetts with her surviving pups.  Her goal in life is to meet, and love, every person she meets!  She is very calm, social, and thinks everyone is there to pet her.  She's the perfect therapy dog.

Link is our newest addition.  We adopted him around the age of 7 later in 2023.  Being an older, black, pit mix, we thought he would have a hard time getting adopted.  He is now 9, and loves life!  He's a hyper old man who just wants to be with his family.  In fact, he found out that he loves swimming this way!  When his family went to swim in a lake, he was nervous, but decided he had to be with us.  Now, he loves the lake!

All 3 dogs have helped me get through some very tough times in my life.  Their bond means everything to me and has helped me to heal.  My goal is to help people to create this bond with their dogs.

My love for my dogs knows no bounds and I want to do everything with them, from hiking to Netflix marathons.  To spend more time bonding, we went through a lot of training.  Once Zelda and I finished basic obedience, we both wanted more! We moved on to get our Canine Good Citizen certification, therapy dog certification, AKC Novice and Intermediate Trick titles, and now we are exploring nose work, competing in AKC scent work trials.  Because I've developed such a strong bond with my dogs and they've helped me so much in my life, I decided to continue fueling my passion to work with dogs.  I become a dog trainer to help people who want this strong, loving bond with their dogs.
